Ant Farming

When I was at uni I really wanted a dog but it was a bit unrealistic so I bought an ant farm instead. Initially I  tried to gather ants from the train station but managed to pick them from different colonies and they just ended up killing each other. Luckily a few months later I managed to capture a load of ants from our kitchen counter (we had an invasion) and waited for the magic- tunnel building- to happen. They lasted for a few months before they gradually started to die off. Ants carry their dead friends out of their home so if any died I could find them in their magnified feeding station. The numbers of dead ants started to increase so one evening I put a blob of jam in their feeding area hoping it would perk them up. Unfortunately this backfired and the next morning I awoke to find about 15 ants had drowned in the jam, they had come down to collect food and got stuck in the sticky mess and died. RIP little fellas. After that I felt mean/ they weren't fun to watch any more so set them free in the garden but here is a picture of 'the farm' at it's prime.
